Surrounding Area

The strategic position of the town combines opportunities for relaxation in the lush Canavese countryside and the Lanzo Valleys with the convenience of being just a few kilometres from Turin and all its artistic and cultural beauty. A visit to the region's capital really is a must, with splendid monuments and buildings such as Palazzo Madama, Piazza Castello and Palazzo Reale ( the Royal Palace), Consolata, Valentino Castle, the Mole Antonelliana, a symbol of Turin and its people, and the Duomo (Cathedral), which houses the Holy Shroud.Volpiano is also just a few kilometres from the Reggia di Venaria Reale (a famous royal residence in Venera, just outside Turin), where the Savoy family would go to relax and to hunt.
It was built according to the will of Carlo Emanuele II in the second half of the seventeenth century, and extended during the 1700s.Currently undergoing extensive restoration work, it can be visited together with the adjacent church of Sant'Uberto, designed by Juvarra.
If you would like to spend a day of a more spiritual nature, we recommend a visit to
the Sacra di San Michele, one of the most interesting and evocative monuments in Piedmont.
The Superga Basilica, perched on top of the hill of the same name, is also not to be missed. This is one of the highest points among the lush green Torinese hills which form a kind of amphitheatre over the city of Turin. The basilica is a destination for pilgrims from all over Italy, and a place of intense worship to the Virgin Mary.
